Holiday Shopping Ideas
Holiday shopping season is in full swing! With so many options available, Experience York Region is here to help guide you with some fantastic shopping options.
Shopping Local at Markets
When you shop local, your money is supporting a small business owner and their family, so you can feel good about purchasing something that is often one-of-a-kind and handcrafted lovingly by someone from your community. Here are some options for local shopping at a holiday market.
December 1 and 2nd
Imagine stepping back in time into our 150-year-old barn decked out for the holidays! You’ll find pre-cut Christmas trees, freshly made wreaths and urns, and lots of locally made goods such as ornaments, soaps, candles and quilts. There will also be warm drinks and treats. Hope to see you here!
December 5 and 6
The Vaughan Christmas Village presented by Coppa’s Fresh Market celebrates the festive season with an enchanting outdoor Christmas market offering: Free photos with Santa both evenings, live Christmas music, Horse & Wagon rides, Big Marquee letters, Huge Mistletoe, A BELIEVE Mail Station for kids to write and mail their Santa Letters, Pics with The Grinch, Festive vendors Food Trucks and more.
Enjoy a one-of-a-kind shopping experience right in the heart of Georgina. Find gifts and treasures from local artisans, chefs, farmers and more. A great Sunday outing (indoors), including prizes, contests and live music!

Sometimes you need to go where you know you’ll find everything conveniently in one spot – and the local shopping mall is often the answer. Be sure to check the events listings for Upper Canada Mall, including the latest edition to the mall, Market & Co, for special holiday-themed events happening throughout the season. The Kitchen & Co event space hosts various cooking classes, which you can check out here.
Hillcrest Mall recently revealed its gorgeous renovation and if you’re looking for gifts for the literary lover in your life, this includes a brand new Chapters Indigo. Plenty of holiday events are available for you to experience – and if you’re still in the market for a tree, check out the Christmas Tree Market in the parking lot, more information here.
For premiere outlet shopping, don’t forget Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre. With brand names galore, at varying price points, you should be able to check off quite a few people from your list. Vaughan Mills presents an opportunity to support Sick Kids Hospital through a visit to Santa’s Tiny Big Town, which you can learn more about here.
Give Back Through Gifting
Giving Tuesday is here and provides the perfect solution for those who want to gift someone (or themselves) with something they love, while at the same time supporting a worthwhile cause.
York Region Arts Council has commissioned a local artist to create an original piece of artwork – for every limited edition, numbered and signed print that sells, 100% of the proceeds will be donated to supporting this non-profit charitable organization with their mission of creating a dynamic York Region arts and culture scene by increasing knowledge, communication and awareness. To secure your limited edition print of ‘Fragile Balance’, head over here, but hurry since there are only 100 prints available.
