B-STRONG BASH FOR BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH
SATURDAY APRIL 25, 2020, ANGUS GLEN GOLF CLUB, MARKHAM
An evening in memory of B-Strong founder, Lindsay Bolger, celebrating 15 years of raising awareness and funds for brain tumour research in Canada. To date, with the support of numerous volunteers, supporters, friends and family, B-Strong has raised over $1.1M for brain tumour research in Canada.
In celebration of 15 years, B-Strong will be holding one final event, The B-Strong Bash, as a way to say thanks to all those who have helped the cause along the way, as well as to raise money for the future fight against this disease. Every day, 27 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumour and 55,000 Canadians are living with brain tumours today.
We would love your assistance in promoting this event, to talk about Lindsay’s legacy and how brain tumours affect Canadians everyday. Lindsay’s father, John Bolger, and Dr. Normand Laperriere (one of Lindsay’s doctors) are available during the month of April for interviews to talk about the B-Strong Bash, the effects of brain tumours and how donations from the public help to further the fight to finding a cure.
Lindsay was diagnosed with a rare form of brain tumour in April of 2005, while studying at St. Francis Xavier University. Shortly after her diagnosis she founded B-Strong: an initiative to raise awareness and funds to help others suffering from brain cancer. With a friend, Lindsay designed the B-Strong cap, her way to help others with the same disease who were suffering from hair loss due to medical treatments. Lindsay thought family and friends might buy a few caps, but before long the hats went viral thanks to Lindsay’s appearance on local TV in Nova Scotia. To date more than 5000 hats have been sold and even more donated to people facing challenges. From there, Lindsay went on to run various events to raise funds and awareness for brain tumour research. Since B-Strong’s inception and even after Lindsay’s passing, the organization has held a total of 5 B-Strong Bashes and 5 B-Strong Walks.
Lindsay went through 4 surgeries, 3 types of radiation and numerous chemotherapy drugs. Lindsay was a fighter who never lost her positive attitude and even in the painful moments, she used B-Strong as a way to always put others first. Sadly, on November 26, 2009, Lindsay lost her battle with brain cancer at the age of 26.
