Event Description

An initiative conceived and developed by the Royal Conservatory of Music, KUNÉ explores and celebrates Canada’s cultural diversity. The thirteen members of KUNÉ hail from all corners of the globe, playing instruments as diverse as they are. Aline Morales (Brazil), Alyssa Delbaere-Sawchuk (Canada – Métis), Anwar Khurshid (Pakistan), Demetrios Petsalakis (Greece), Dora Wang (China), Dorjee Tsering (Tibet), Lasso (Burkina Faso), Luis Deniz (Cuba), Martias Recharte (Peru), Paco Luviano (Mexico), Padideh Ahrarnejad (Iran), and Sasha Boychouk (Ukraine) came together in December 2016 under the artistic direction of David Buchbinder (United States/Canada) to create a band that looks and sounds like Canada today. The members of KUNÉ have formed a sound that is, at once, global and uniquely local.
