Event Description

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the gallery’s founders, Robert and Signe McMichael, celebrated Christmas with a welcoming spirit, inviting neighbours into their home to enjoy their collection of Canadian art. With its hand-hewn log-and-stone architecture construction and panoramic views of the snow-covered forest, the McMichaels’ home was truly a place of special Christmas cheer; so-much-so that Signe McMichael was once quoted in an article, “This house was made for Christmas.”

Now you too can experience the warmth and joy of Christmas the McMichael way!

This special Christmas Family Program includes*:

-A display of winter-themed artwork and Christmas cards

-1950s-inspired decorations in the original living room (now the Founders’ Lounge)

-Wagon rides (11 am to 2 pm, first-come, first-served basis)

-Instructor-led drop-in art activities (11 am to 4 pm)

-Scheduled picture time with Santa (To ensure that you enjoy your full five minutes with Santa, we recommend that you arrive at the Founders’ Lounge at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Please bring your own device and a McMichael representative will happily use it to take your family’s photo.)

-Every Sunday, the DuffleBag Theatre Company will present two Christmas-themed performances at 11:30 am and 2 pm, including:

-A Christmas Carol (Dec 2)

-‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (Dec 9)

-A Christmas Carol (Dec 16)
