Virtual Canada Day Experiences in York Region

Canada Day celebrations have gone virtual this year! Even though we cannot gather and come together in person, we can still celebrate the occasion from the comforts of our homes. Here’s a quick round-up of how each municipality is celebrating Canada Day.

Town of Aurora

Enjoy mesmerizing busker performances, Canadian trivia games, and fantastic entertainment courtesy of Louisa and The Planets and Glenn Marais and the Mojo Train. Don’t miss the virtual fireworks at 7:45pm!

Town of East Gwillimbury

Town of Georgina

Watch performances by local bands and take part in a cultural dance demonstration or live Canadian trivia. Kids also get to enjoy performances by Doo Doo the Clown, Dan the Music Man, the Magic of Aaron Matthews, and Trellis circus acts. Stay tuned for virtual fireworks!

City of Markham

Watch Doo Doo the Clown, participate in ‘Learn to Draw’ and ‘Get Movin’ workshops for all ages and abilities, and get into a competitive spirit with the Great Canadian Trivia and Colouring Contests. Watch a very special ‘O Canada’ video tribute and a Virtual Fireworks Experience later in the day. Share your Canada Day photos and videos on social media using the hashtag #MkmCanadaDay.

Town of Newmarket

Show off your Canadian pride! Download a Canadian Flag Window Poster at newmarket.ca/kanata and hang it proudly in a front window facing the street. Snap a photo of your window poster, festive decorations, or other unique ways you’re celebrating Canada Day on social media using #NewmarketEH and tag @TownOfNewmarket.

The Town of Newmarket will also be launching a special commemorative video to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Canadian national anthem. The video includes a mash-up of submissions from residents singing ‘O Canada’ and will be released on the Town of Newmarket’s YouTube channel on Canada Day.

City of Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill celebrates Canada Day with performances by Dan the Music Man, Mighty Mike and the Dreamboats, The Fire Guy, and more! Learn new summer recipes with Chef Stephanie Tucci, participate in arts and crafts activities, and take part in a nationwide Canada Day Drumming Virtual Celebration starting at 1pm. City of Vaughan

Vaughan’s celebrations will feature performances by Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees Barenaked Ladies; R&B, pop, and modern hip-hop band The Free Label; comedian Susan Stewart, and more. Get moving with dance lessons for the whole family, keep an eye out for celebrity shout-outs, and take part in interactive activities. CHUM 104.5’s Ashley Greco hosts.
