Heritage Schoolhouse Museum and Archives

The York Region District School Board Museum & Archives acquires, catalogues and preserves archival records and artifacts related to public education in York Region. Located in a designated one-room schoolhouse from 1872, our collection reflects the vast changes that have happened in public education spanning the past 150 years. Not only do we collect historically significant records and objects, we also love to spark curiosity and wonder about history through our education programs. Through in-class, virtual and outreach programs, students can experience the day in the life of a student that attended S.S. No. 5 Markham in Buttonville Ontario. You can find out more about our programs, exhibits and collections on our website, follow us on our Instagram account, or check out our YouTube videos.
