Ancestral Voices: Adwoa Badoe Author & Storyteller

26 April 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Free

Join Newmarket Public Library for our Ancestral Voices author series exploring the experiences of Indigenous, Caribbean and African Peoples in Canada.

We are pleased to host a presentation by author and storyteller, Adwoa Badoe. Adwoa will engage participants on the place of oral storytelling in the community. She will discuss how her book, The Pot of Wisdom: Ananse Stories, came about, what is a story, why tell stories, compare the written story with the oral story and ponder can we make new stories about old folktale characters. The discussion will include some of the practices surrounding storytelling, such as the story call and response, closing the telling, story chants and interruption chants. She will even teach us a chant or two.
Presented in collaboration with Maxine Gordon Palomino and Kim Wheatley, Anishinaabe Consultant.
