Ancestral Voices – An evening with author Jael Richardson

Join us for a new author series exploring the experiences of Indigenous, Caribbean and African Peoples in Canada. Jael, an award-winning author and book columnist on CBC Radio’s arts program Q, will be talking about her recently published first novel. Jael is also the executive director of the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) and regularly speaks at literary events about the importance of telling diverse Canadian stories. She also
wrote the award-winning memoir The Stone Thrower. Gutter Child is her first novel, a highly praised work of speculative fiction set in a world where Elimina, a young ‘Gutter’ child, fights to overcome an oppressive regime run by the privileged elites.
Ancestral Voices is an author series presented by Newmarket Public Library, in collaboration with Maxine Gordon Palomino and Kim Wheatley.
