Speaker Series: “Bad Advertising from the Past” with Lianne Harris

May 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

$12.50

We may squirm and chuckle as we explore these eye-popping, head-shaking, bad advertisements from the past — but it is an important barometer to gauge what social values were important at the time. Whether these advertisements stemmed from the minds of ‘madmen’, or were cooked up in the stuffy offices of ad agencies, the world of bad advertising is a humourous look in the mirror of modern thinking and values. Join Lianne Harris for this enlightening 1-hour presentation as she brings back examples of advertising so bad — that it is good (for a laugh).

Lianne Harris is a former Social Studies / History Specialist with the Toronto District School Board, guest instructor and workshop leader for many other school boards in Southern Ontario, and curriculum advisor for Upper Canada College, having taught over 100,000 teachers and students.

This program is offered in a hybrid format – in-person at Hillary House National Historic Site and online via Zoom. The in-person program takes place in the Ballroom, located on the second floor of Hillary House which is only accessed via a staircase. Please contact us at community@aurorahs.com to inquiry about accommodations.
