Latcham Art Centre offers adults a chance to explore artistic talents

Are you an adult who wants to try different types of art making, have fun, and connect with others in a welcoming environment? 

Then the Latcham Art Centre may have the series for you!  

From Tuesday, January 10 to Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the centre is hosting Art Exploration Series, a variety of daytime art workshops, priced at $35 to $40 per session.

Each session focuses on exploring different materials and different ways of making art. These fun programs don’t require any previous experience, and all materials are included. Register for one session or register for them all – each one offers something new!

Tea and coffee are also included in these programs. Registration is required for each session. 

Tuesday, January 10 | 1:30 – 3:30 | Mixed Media Notebooks: Start the new year on a creative note and make a personalized mixed media notebook in the studio with instructor Maeve Badger! Participants will explore different themes using mixed media to create an inspiring and durable cover for their ringed book project. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. 

Monday, January 23 | 1:30 – 3:30 | Watercolour Waterscape: Immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of watercolour in this fun, and relaxing workshop! Join instructor Jen Onlock in the studio to explore the colours and movement of water in this watercolour study project. Participants will explore colour mixing, the use of brushes, and resist to create their unique paintings. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. 

Tuesday, February 7 | 1:30 – 4:00 | Lino Block Card Printing: Create one of a kind printed cards in this fun and social workshop! Learn how to design and create a block for printing, and then use it to print a variety of cards. Instructor Jen Onlock will lead you through the process of creating your image, carving into the soft block, and then using a variety of colours and papers to create your unique handmade cards! No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. 

Tuesday, February 21 | 1:30 – 4:00 | Intuitive Acrylic Painting: Explore acrylic paint using a variety of meditative mark-making techniques and tools in a relaxing studio setting with instructor Stevie Minacs. Participants will become in tune with their inner creativity by allowing themselves to have fun and paint without judgement. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. 

March 7 | 1:30 – 4:00 | Clay Sculpting – Make Your Own Bowl: Air-drying clay is a versatile and unique material to create art with. Learn how to make your own bowl with textures and designs, using your hands and sculpting tools with instructor Erica Joaquin. Leave with a decorative bowl that will be a beautiful addition to any home!  No experience is necessary, and all materials are included. 

March 21 | 1:30 – 3:30 | Musical Expressions: Explore the relationship between music and art with instructor Maeve Badger in this fun and social workshop! To start, participants will learn about the elements that music and the visual arts share such as harmony, rhythm, and repetition. Later, they will then use music to create an artwork inspired by synesthesia, a phenomenon involving the ability to visualize music. No experience is necessary, and all materials are included.
