The classic tale of the boy who never grew up – Peter Pan – comes to life at the Lebovic Centre for Arts and Entertainment – 19 on the Park in Stouffville on August 28.

A production of Ovation! Performing Arts Academy and Panoply Theatre Collective, this version of Peter Pan is a joint professional/student adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic story. The show is also their Summer 2022 Performance Company show..

“We’re thrilled to continue our collaboration with Panoply on this project,” said Bonnie Craig, Artistic Director at Ovation! “Their focus on illuminating new narratives within older stories helps young people re-connect with classic tales.  Their modern perspective helps unlock the universal themes and messages of this joyful play – Peter Pan is as relevant today as it was a hundred years ago.”

Ideal for anyone over the age of eight, the themes of gender roles, adolescence, and independence are all explored in this uplifting retelling of the classic tale of the boy who never grew up.

Each year, Ovation!’s Summer Performance Company challenges young performers, working alongside professionals, to produce a different play for performance in late August.  They learn about classical text, character development, rehearsal process, and performance and production skills in this ambitious enterprise to create a new or revised work.

“The student performers learn and work alongside our professional actors, designers and director,” explained Paige Madsen, Co-Artistic Director at Panoply.  “It’s an intensive curriculum, and we’re so excited to continue our work with these dedicated young actors in York Region who have a true desire to create within this kind of ensemble.”
