Daniel Gray

Visual Arts

Daniel was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He has lived in Ottawa, Carleton Place, Kingston and now Thornhill. He is currently a serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces and is based out of Toronto. It is his hope he will be able to one day make painting a full-time job once his military career comes to an ends. His main medium is acrylic paint and uses gesso and molding paste to create texture. He started painting after looking at a few paintings by Jackson Pollock. The first few of Daniels paintings you can see are clearly inspired and created in the style of action/drips that Pollock had start back in the 60's. His second inspirational painter is Lori Mirabelli. One thing that Daniel has been known for is that he goes against the established thought with regards to canvas painting. He does this by leaving a .5 to 1 inch border around most of his paintings to create the effect of a frame, while the sides of the canvases are very rarely painted. When not working or painting Daniel is looking at enrolling in a BFA course either through the Emily Carr University of Art or The Ontario College of Art and design. He has sold several paintings that are in private collections located in Ottawa, Jasper, Niagara Falls Ontario. Beside these Canadian cities he has pieces in private collections in the United states including Niagara Falls New York, and Williamsville New York.
