Arts Society King building relationships that benefit entire community

Arts Society King is presenting Studio Tour King this weekend at various locations. We wanted to get to know ASK a bit better so we sat down with Michele McNally, president of ASK. Read the interview or click on the video below to hear Michele tell it.

There’s nothing like the spirit of cooperation to make a project a success.

The folks at Arts Society King have been leveraging that belief for quite some time and it’s certainly hard to argue with the results. Since being formed 17 years ago, ASK has constantly added events to its calendar and has formed some dynamic and important relationships along the way.

“ASK started in King City and it started with a writer’s group called Write Now at King and our Mosaic magazine, which comes out quarterly,” said Michele McNally, president of ASK. ‘Since then, we’ve taken over the Studio Tour King, which happens this weekend, ASK member Kathleen Rodgers has been integral to starting the International Women’s Day art exhibition display at the King Heritage & Cultural Centre and we’ve partnered with the Schomberg Street Gallery, the third Sunday in September – it’s a very large signature event.”

ASK is also branching out to support other community events, including garden tours and horticultural tours.

“This year we’re working with the Nobleton and King City Garden Club to do a pop-up plant sale in the spring and we’re doing an artist-in-the-garden event with the Schomberg Horticultural Society.”

And while live events are the top priority, ASK didn’t allow the pandemic to slow them down. They launched new programs – Autumn Reflections en Plein Air, White Hot Shot Winter photo contest and the Timeless Tales writing contest.

“We have a very active and very passionate membership,” McNally said of the more than 60 folks who are currently members. “We have some very talented members and we’re always looking for more.”
