Cellist Mercer joins Kindred Spirit Orchestra for opening night

SHARE

On Saturday, October 22 at 8 p.m. the Kindred Spirits Orchestra, under the direction of maestro Kristian Alexander, will present masterworks by Strauss, Lalo and Grieg at the Flato Markham Theatre.

“Now a concert hall staple, Strauss Jr.’s enduring overture of captivating themes to Die Fledermaus (The Bat), is the embodiment of bubbly Viennese operetta,” said Maestro Kristian Alexander, Music Director of the Kindred Spirits Orchestra.

National Arts Centre Principal cellist Rachel Mercer returns to the KSO in a rousing performance of the aggressively passionate Concerto for cello and orchestra by French composer Édouard Lalo.

Mercer has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician across five continents. Grand prize winner of the 2001 Vriendenkrans Competition in Amsterdam, she is currently Principal Cello of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa and Artistic Director of the “5 at the First” Chamber Music Series in Hamilton.

Tickets are available through KSOrchestra.ca and FlatoMarkhamTheatre.ca
