Enjoy a self-guided hike through some gorgeous trails with views of Fairy Lake and the Experience Trail Markers created by Donald Chretien, Nipissing First Nation with a cultural narrative by Ojibwe Elder Shelley Charles, Georgina Island First Nation. Attendees who participate in the scavenger hunt will be entered to win apparel that highlights artwork from the Experience Trail Project! Meet your neighbors, and spread out a picnic blanket to enjoy the day outdoors! WHAT: Self-Guided Scavenger Hunt
WHERE: Fairy Lake Park, 520 Water St, Newmarket
WHEN: Friday, June 7th at any time between 1 and 7 pm. *The Experience Trail Markers were originally commissioned by the York Region Arts Council.*

CALL TO YORK REGION-BASED ARTISTS
The York Region Arts Council is excited to partner with the @uppercanadamall to highlight artistic excellence in York Region through the creation of an art display!
Where: Upper Canada Mall
Theme: We are requesting the submission of artwork for display around the theme of Ontario Summers and Cottage Country.
Mediums: All mediums are invited to apply!
Submission Requirements:
1. Images of the artwork you are submitting for consideration.
2. Artist Resume and a short biography.
Please note that artists must reside in York Region. Please email your submission including the above requested information to info@yorkregionartscouncil.com.
Exhibition Timeline: Mid-June to Mid-September
Submissions Due: Monday, May 27th by 11:59 pm
Selection Process: Selections of artwork will be made by the York Region Arts Council in partnership with the Upper Canada Mall.
Notification to Artists: All artists will be contacted by Friday May 31 by 5:00 pm.
Art Drop Off/Pick Up Details: Selected Artwork can be dropped off at the Upper Canada admin office OR guest experience. The Upper Canada Admin office is open Monday-Friday 11-5 and is located on the Upper Level, near the food court between Aerie and La Vie En Rose. Guest Experience is located on the upper level, inside entrance 2 near Dynamite. Their hours are Monday – Friday 11-6 & Saturday/Sunday 11-7
Accepted Artwork: Accepted artwork will be hung on the wall as part of a display celebrating Ontario Summer. Artist credits will be displayed along with the artwork including name, social media handles and websites if applicable.

York Region’s new plan for Newcomer Inclusion wa

York Region’s new plan for Newcomer Inclusion was adopted by York Regional Council on March 21, 2024! A Place to Thrive: York Region’s 2024 to 2027 Plan for Newcomer Inclusion builds on the successes of previous plans and presents a vision for how York Region Local Immigration Partnership will support newcomer health and well-being, build welcoming communities where everyone belongs, and promote equitable and prosperous economic pathways for diverse groups of newcomers. The York Region Arts Council was thrilled to contribute to this plan as a member of the Newcomer Inclusion Table. In support of this plan, we created the “York Region Newcomer Inclusion Plan Artwork Initiative’’, to highlight Newcomer Artwork in the plan. Newcomer members of the York Region Arts Council were encouraged to submit artwork for consideration and here are the featured pieces!
