SHARE

Name:  Phiona Durrant

Occupation: Owner of Coconut Village and Spa, Aurora

How long have you lived in YR?  15 years

Why did you make YR home?  Coming from Jamaica, having a sense of community is important and I love that York Region has lots of trails and greenery. I also wanted a place that had diverse cultures.

What do you do for fun in YR Attend community events, enjoy some winter sports with my sons, especially when they were young. I’m trying to get my tropical blood more comfortable with winter events, so this winter I’m on a mission to learn ice skating.

What is one summer/winter event that you never miss in YR?  Chamber Street festivals and concerts in the park.

What are your favourite restaurants in YR?  I love cooking, so I have very high expectations of restaurants. So far, the favourites are Awe Shucks, Irie Bistro Jamaican Food, Thai Spring Rolls, and Nandos.

What YR attractions/events/happenings would you recommend to friends who visit YR? York Region Street Festivals, Concerts in the Park, and the Farmers Markets.
