Remembrance – eleventh hour; eleventh day; eleventh month

Flags across York Region will be lowered to half-mast Friday morning to recognize those who fought and died for our freedoms in wars around the world.

While many York Region communities hosted parades and other events this past weekend, November 11 remains the official day of Remembrance and there will be services at various locations across the region.

AURORA

On Remembrance Day, Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m., a small service will take place at the Cenotaph, 14700 Yonge Street, followed by light refreshments at the legion. For more information, visit auroralegion.ca.

EAST GWILLIMBURY

Each year on Remembrance Day we gather as a community to honour the men and women that made and continue to make the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. This year, please join us on November 11 at 10:40 a.m. outside the Civic Centre (19000 Leslie St) as we honour our heroes.

This event is outdoors.

GEORGINA

Remembrance Day services will be held at the Keswick and Sutton cenotaphs on Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m.

MARKHAM

Join members of Markham council and city staff to honour and remember our veterans. Following tradition, primary students will recite “In Flanders Fields” and the Mayors Youth Task Force will announce the winners of the annual poetry contest.

NEWMARKET

Remembrance Day Service, hosted by the Newmarket Veterans’ Association will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the Newmarket Cemetery, 112 Main Street North.

RICHMOND HILL

On Nov. 11, the legion in Richmond Hill — with the support of the York Regional Police — will also hold a smaller-scale service at the Cenotaph, outside the McConaghy Centre, to observe Remembrance Day.

SCHOMBERG

Remembrance Day services will be held at the Trisan Centre, 25 Dillane Drive in Schomberg on November 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

STOUFFVILLE 

On Nov. 11, there will be a ceremony held at the Stouffville Legion located on 150 Mostar St. The ceremony starts at 10:55 a.m.

UNIONVILLE

The Unionville Village BIA will hold a ceremony including short speeches and a wreath laying at the cenotaph on Friday, Nov. 11 from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. at Crosby Memorial Arena Cenotaph, 210 Main St., Unionville

VAUGHAN

This year’s Remembrance Day Parade will be forming up at 10:30am on Friday November 11th, at the intersection of Woodbridge Avenue and Wallace Street. For additional information on the Royal Canadian Legion – Mackenzie Branch 414’s Annual Remembrance Day Service at the Woodbridge Cenotaph, please contact the Branch at 905-851-0032.
