York Region’s creative community came together this afternoon to celebrate the winners of the inaugural YR Arts Awards presented by the York Region Arts Council. The winner in each of the five categories, plus the Members’ Choice winner, will receive a prize of $1000.
“In the spirit of tomorrow’s “World Art Day”, the YR Art Arts Awards brought our community together to celebrate the impactful work that only artists can create,” said Monica del Rio Pain, awards organizer and program curator at the York Region Arts Council. “The 2022 YR Arts Awards winners reflect the exceptional and meaningful artistry of the region and the diverse expressions of our YRAC members.”
The winners of the inaugural YR Arts Awards are:
Community Engagement Award – Shadowpath Theatre
Emergence Award – Selina Yung
Innovator Award – Aali Badihi
Resiliency Award – Yafang Shi
Sustainability Award – Alysha Rocca
Members Choice Award – Aali Badihi “Throwing Stones to the Colour”
“This inaugural year came out of a challenging time for the arts and we are elated with the results that brought joy, inspiration and hope to the future of our artistic community,” said del Rio Pain. “We look forward to expanding the YR Arts Awards next year with a larger, in-person event.
